Overview

speedrun.io is operated by speedrun.io LLC ("we", "us", "our"). This policy describes what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have regarding your data.

speedrun.io is entirely non-commercial. We do not display advertisements, partner with advertising networks, accept donations, or monetize personal data in any form. This is a deliberate, stated commitment, not a limitation.

Information We Collect

speedrun.io does not currently offer user accounts or data submissions, and we do not collect personal information from visitors beyond what is described below. If that changes, this policy will be updated before any new collection begins.

• Messages you send us — such as an email to one of our contact addresses, used only to respond to you.
• Basic server logs — standard technical information (such as IP address and request time) that web servers record automatically, used for security and reliability.

speedrun.io also operates /v1, a public, read-only archive of speedrun.com run, game, and user data, collected through September 13, 2026 — a few weeks before speedrun.com's September 30, 2026 Terms of Use update forced a pause in new collection. For users, this includes publicly listed profile fields such as username, location, and pronouns (where set on speedrun.com), plus submitted runs. It does not include anything speedrun.com itself didn't already make public, and no new data has been collected since.

If you'd like your data restricted — removed from public access, or handled some other way — contact [email protected]. A self-service form for this is coming soon; see docs.speedrun.io for updates. You can also ask about, correct, or request removal of your information in the archive at any time using the same address.

Your Data, Your Call

You retain full ownership of your run data at all times. This is not a feature we may revisit; it is the foundation the platform is built on.

• You can access, export, or delete your data at any time.
• When data submission becomes available, you will decide the visibility of your data: fully private, fully public, or shared with specific groups or projects you choose.
• Data you choose to make public is made available under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC-BY-NC 4.0) license, the same license speedrun.io's archive has always operated under.
• Changing your visibility preference takes effect going forward; it does not retroactively alter copies already fetched by others under a prior public license, consistent with how CC-BY-NC licensing works generally.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect only to operate and secure the site and to respond to messages and requests.

We do not use your personal data for advertising, behavioral profiling, or any commercial purpose. We do not sell your personal information to anyone.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information. We may share data in the following limited circumstances:

• Your own choice — anything you've asked us to publish or share, exactly as you configured it.
• Service providers — trusted infrastructure vendors (e.g. hosting) bound by confidentiality, permitted to use data only as we direct.
• Edge security provider — a separate infrastructure provider processes request data (such as IP address) at the edge for DDoS protection and rate limiting. Its data is private and wiped after analysis; speedrun.io retains no record of it.
• Legal compliance — when required by law or valid legal process.
• With your consent — any other circumstance where you've explicitly agreed.

Data Retention

We retain information for as long as it is needed for the purposes described in this policy. You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting [email protected]. Deletion requests are honored promptly, subject only to brief operational backups. Please note that deleted data will potentially result in historical runs that may not be recoverable in the future.

Cookies and Tracking

speedrun.io does not use advertising cookies, trackers, device fingerprinting, or any cross-site or cross-device tracking technique of any kind. We do not participate in advertising networks.

The only thing we store in your browser is your light/dark display preference, and only so the site remembers it. It is not used for tracking or profiling and is never shared with any third party.

Security

We take reasonable technical measures to protect your information, including encrypted data transmission and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. In the event of a breach affecting your rights, we will notify affected users in accordance with applicable law.

Your Rights

Regardless of jurisdiction, you have the following rights with respect to your data on speedrun.io:

• Access — a copy of the data we hold about you, at any time.
• Correction — fix inaccurate or incomplete data.
• Deletion — remove your data from speedrun.io entirely.
• Portability — a machine-readable export of your own data.
• Control over visibility — change who can see your data at any time.

Children's Privacy

speedrun.io is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted personal information without parental consent, contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. Material changes will be posted on this site before they take effect. Prior versions of this policy will remain available for review.
