Archive
This is where you can upload your speedrun.com data export. Once you've downloaded your export file from your speedrun.com account settings, submit it here to add your runs to the speedrun.io archive under your own ownership and visibility controls, as described in Your Data, Your Call and Your Data, Your Rules. The short version: your data is yours and will be secured safely, securely and made available to you at any time, no questions.
For additional context, feel free to read the Open Letter.
Submit Your Data
The Long Version
This will be the detailed description of the archival process. I wanted to dedicate a full section to this, since trust and transparency are going to be the most important part of building out this archive. I'm going to outline every single step of what happens once you submit your data. Given the changes to the speedrun.com terms, the need for communities to find a safe home for their data has been a huge discussion, and I am expediting the creation and building it as fast as possible.
While it is being put together from the backend, I do welcome everyone to read through the open letter on the home page and the points below and give feedback, either to me personally via email, discord @ thekrynn or the speedrun.io Discord Server.
Once you upload your speedrun.com export json file, the following happens:
- Your file is archived securly and privately
- All data other than the user and run data (such as messages), are disregarded
- Run and user data is parsed and analyzed against our CC-BY-NC 4.0 speedrun.com mirror
- All submissions that have been flagged as manipulated will be rejected, no exceptions
- Verified data will be timestamped with its submission and its validity
- Those runs will be converted to our new data CC-BY-NC 4.0 compliant format
- An email with a confirmation link will be sent to that user to ensure immediate access to their data
Once your account is set up, I'll be providing basic instructions on how to check and manage the public settings for your data. Over the course of the following week, I'll be adding site-side control for the ability to login and do this visually to make life easier. This is a quick list of what you'll be able to do:
- Download your data at any time, no questions
- Set your data to be private only and not accessible via API
- Set your data to be public and accessible via our API without a token
- Set your data to be public and accessible via our API requiring a token
- Optionally allow other speedrun projects to use your data via an integration with us
- Allow your data to be accessible in a platform-wide data dump for emergency archive migration
